When i try to play these [on Ravi's site], I keep getting this microsoft internet explorer window that says "Click to play - right-click (PC) or option-click (Mac) to download," & so then i try to click on, & nothing happens...except these:

I hear the basic hi-hat groove as 18/16 subdivided four groups of 4/16ths with 2/16ths at the end. Similiar to Celestial Terrestrial Commuters which if I recall was 19/16. 4/4 with 3/16ths tagged on the end.

On 26-2 the intro of the tune is in 5.
Then the head comes in then goes into 9
the solos are in 9.
The head comes in again at the end of the tune still in 9 then the tune ends

That half time phrase Weckl talks about in The Next Step also works good to hear the subdivisions.On 26-2 the intro of the tune is in 5.

Hey Rob, are you sure that is in 9. I sometimes hear it in 17/16.
Obviously a 17/16 on steroids!!! [img]tongue.gif[/img] .
When they play the theme I hear 3 groups of 4 16th notes and then 1 group of 5.... 4+4+4+5=17, (not sure of the order) but I'll check it again.
Maybe some of the members of his forums could ask him how he count that s***t and help us solve the mistery.
The harmonic changes sound like the "Giant Steps" changes (That famous progression use 26 chords so maybe the title 26-2 is a reference) which by the way are one of the most difficult to solo over, so all my respect goes also to the other players, who are not only dealing with a crazy odd meter, but also a insane harmonic progression at a very fast tempo [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/beer.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/beer.gif[/img]

You're right about that studio drummer thing. Steve is creative drummer with jazz mind, but he also had a studio/sideman mentality. those two combined are rare and can make for a great career. Obviously. He's at the beginning of his career and he's already had dream gigs and sessions.
